This mantle:

• Caused people to notice you without explanation
• Gave weight to your voice
• Made room for you where you didn’t campaign
• Carried you where effort could not
But mantles can be lost.
They can be stripped.
They can be buried.
And often, when a mantle is gone, people don’t realise it immediately — they just feel that something is off.

but the garment that distinguished them was attacked.”
